Elephants with long tusks are highly endangered due to poaching, habitat loss and trophy hunting. I’ve been fortunate to see several over my years of visiting Africa especially in Amoboseli NP, Kenya. Whenever I do, it’s a treat. And if that Majestic Being is willing to give me a photography opportunity I consider it to be a blessing. In this image, Big Tusker Michael walkds across a dry lake bed while his friend, a cattle egret, gets a free ride. Cattle egrets are frequent companions of elephants because of insects stirred up from the ground while elephants walk and those that gather around the elephants' bodies.
