Desert Queen

A rare desert-adapted lioness walks across her domain of sand, rock and dunes. Local scientists refer to her as XPL-69. She is equipped with a radio collar so her behavior can be studied and used to support the dwindling number of desert-adapted lions that survive in Namibia’s Skeleton Coast. Seeing her stride across the barren environment gave me renewed respect for the strength and resiliency of lions.
