A King Penguin preens and, in doing so, gives me an opportunity to create a unique composition. King Penguins are renowned for their vibrant orange/yellow chest, neck and cheek feathers. They are also known for their size being the second largest penguin species. I got this image in Volunteer Point, Falkland Islands by sitting quietly at the edge of a king penguins colony. I waited and watched for an adult to accept my presence and start to preen. One began to preen rigorously and twisted his/her neck in an unusual position to reach hard-to-get tail feathers.The posture created unusual lines and semi-circles in the brilliantly colored feathers.
