An adult king penguin swam alongside me to see what strange manager of creature I was! I had been sitting in the water for several hours with minimal movements to allow a nearby colony to get comfortable with my presence. They were quick to accept me but only at a distance. It took much longer for individual birds to come close enough for me to effectively use the wide angle in my underwater housing. It was great fun to see the personalities of each of the penguins, how close they would come and what their reactions were. This fellow got really spent some time checking me out!!
