King penguins are fastidious about their feather maintenance. I was lucky enough to come upon this pair who were away from the clutter of the colony and on a clean background of snow. I spent 40 minutes with the pair, inching my way closer in the snow in gradual increments so they would accept my presence. Their ritual included all kinds of head and body bends, wing flaps and head throws.
